The 1st International Graffiti Biennale gathered artists from several countries in Belo Horizonte for an international forum about graffiti, through workshops, debates, exhibitions and urban intervention. Aiming for decentralized actions in order to expand the public’s reach and participation, the Biennale had a space in which the artists could experiment, exchange references and share their own ideas, ethics, aesthetics and ideologies with society, directly in the streets. Thus, the event was guided by the recognition of graffiti as a global artistic phenomenon of increasing importance, either in the artistic circuits as in the urban daily life.
